Summary

The first authorized copy of this mysterious, much-speculated-upon, one-of-a-kind, centuries-old puzzle。 The Voynich Manuscript is produced from new photographs of the entire original and accompanied by expert essays that invite anyone to understand and explore the enigma。

Many call the fifteenth-century codex, commonly known as the “Voynich Manuscript,” the world’s most mysterious book。 Written in an unknown script by an unknown author, the manuscript has no clearer purpose now than when it was rediscovered in 1912 by rare books dealer Wilfrid Voynich。 The manuscript appears and disappears throughout history, from the library of the Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II to a secret sale of books in 1903 by the Society of Jesus in Rome。 The book’s language has eluded decipherment, and its elaborate illustrations remain as baffling as they are beautiful。 For the first time, this facsimile, complete with elaborate folding sections, allows readers to explore this enigma in all its stunning detail, from its one-of-a-kind “Voynichese” text to its illustrations of otherworldly plants, unfamiliar constellations, and naked women swimming though fantastical tubes and green baths。

The essays that accompany the manuscript explain what we have learned about this work—from alchemical, cryptographic, forensic, and historical perspectives—but they provide few definitive answers。 Instead, as New York Times best-selling author Deborah Harkness says in her introduction, the book “invites the reader to join us at the heart of the mystery。”

bro。 three paragraphs into the preface and we’re hit by an in depth description of the medium。 literally nobody knows what’s going on w this book。 but dw。 i’ve got the answer。 aliens。 obviously。 seriously though, great scholasticism going into this thing, but i’m definitely not the one to solve it。 i’ll pass it to the next generation like everyone else。2 stars because all the text was completely incomprehensible but had some pretty pictures。

The sheer mystery of the experience of "read"ing this book is what keeps compelling me to revisit it over and over again as I sort through it to try to find some thread of understanding。 In the way this book is organised, it seems as if it's someone's journal through a state of madness。 It also strikes me as something any Psychodynamic Psychologist would love as there's something about this book that seems to unite the conscious and unconscious mind。 At some times, I feel that this book is a par The sheer mystery of the experience of "read"ing this book is what keeps compelling me to revisit it over and over again as I sort through it to try to find some thread of understanding。 In the way this book is organised, it seems as if it's someone's journal through a state of madness。 It also strikes me as something any Psychodynamic Psychologist would love as there's something about this book that seems to unite the conscious and unconscious mind。 At some times, I feel that this book is a parody of some sort and at others, I feel that it's almost divine in its wisdom。 Whatever it is probably falls into the mundane, but the true mystery of the book is how anyone, regardless of age or culture or time in history can look at this book and be equally baffled。 。。。more

While I'm so happy to own a physical copy of this book, the essays were fairly useless。 They're brief flyovers, far less rich or detailed than the preponderance of information you can find online。 I did learn a bit more about Voynich himself, his life and temperament。 Frankly, it's a bit difficult to believe he's not the author, he's such a larger than life type figure, just the kind of wayward genius you'd pick out of a lineup for this kind of thing。 While I'm so happy to own a physical copy of this book, the essays were fairly useless。 They're brief flyovers, far less rich or detailed than the preponderance of information you can find online。 I did learn a bit more about Voynich himself, his life and temperament。 Frankly, it's a bit difficult to believe he's not the author, he's such a larger than life type figure, just the kind of wayward genius you'd pick out of a lineup for this kind of thing。 。。。more

What an eye-opening read! Took me a little to get used to the writing style, but totally worth it! The emotional journey I experienced going from page to page made me a new person。 Crying tears of joy, tears of agony。 Truth hurts, as we all know。 The Voynich Manuscript hurts。 It claws it's teeth into your brain, seeps deep inside your veins and doesnt let go。 Will never let you part with the knowledge it imparted onto you。Expect nothing less than the answers。:-)Reminded me of Jurgen Leitners lib What an eye-opening read!

An excellent overview of the manuscript。 This being my first real study of it, I feel well-informed on its history and academic inquiries。 If I had one complaint, it's that none of the essays examine "Voynichese," which is one of my major interests on the subject。The full-sized reproduction and various foldouts are all fantastic。 An excellent overview of the manuscript。 This being my first real study of it, I feel well-informed on its history and academic inquiries。 If I had one complaint, it's that none of the essays examine "Voynichese," which is one of my major interests on the subject。The full-sized reproduction and various foldouts are all fantastic。 。。。more

This is a very high-quality reproduction of the Voynich Manuscript, which goes so far as to depict the fold-out sheets on fold-outs of its own。 The photography is excellent, and the manuscript is pictured in its actual size。The surround essays are fine。 They don't go much into decipherment efforts, focusing instead on things like the construction of the codex, the manuscript's provenance, and the life of Wilfred Voynich himself。 But this is the best reproduction I've seen on the market, and so I This is a very high-quality reproduction of the Voynich Manuscript, which goes so far as to depict the fold-out sheets on fold-outs of its own。 The photography is excellent, and the manuscript is pictured in its actual size。The surround essays are fine。 They don't go much into decipherment efforts, focusing instead on things like the construction of the codex, the manuscript's provenance, and the life of Wilfred Voynich himself。 But this is the best reproduction I've seen on the market, and so I'd highly recommend it if you have an interest in the Voynich。 。。。more

Enigma, much?

It's difficult to write a review of the Voynich Manuscript because one doesn't actually read it。 Rather, it would be more apt to say that one experiences the Voynich Manuscript。 This edition is an excellent facsimile of the original manuscript, it's the closest that us normal folk will get to handling the real thing。 It is a very large and heavy book with a waxy dust jacket and robust paper stock。 The colours are all crisp, clear and vibrant and the accompanying essays are peppered with images a It's difficult to write a review of the Voynich Manuscript because one doesn't actually read it。 Rather, it would be more apt to say that one experiences the Voynich Manuscript。 This edition is an excellent facsimile of the original manuscript, it's the closest that us normal folk will get to handling the real thing。 It is a very large and heavy book with a waxy dust jacket and robust paper stock。 The colours are all crisp, clear and vibrant and the accompanying essays are peppered with images and a wealth of information。 Best of all, it includes the appropriate fold-out pages as featured in the original manuscript。 As for the contents of the manuscript itself, I doubt that it'll ever be deciphered and certainly not in my lifetime。 I have my own theories, many of which I'm sure have been posed before。。。 but that's for another discussion entirely, isn't it? 。。。more
